Founded in 1992, Houston, Texas based Select Banking Systems (SBS), began providing sales and service of specialty equipment to financial institutions such as banks and credit unions. SBS sold a variety of teller-line and back office equipment such as check encoders, check protectors, currency/coin counting equipment, counterfeit detectors, microfilmers and paper handling equipment.

In the mid 1990's a major shift towards software driven devices and banking branch automation began to change the landscape behind the teller line. At the same time, the use of many of these types of electro-mechanical machines began to decrease due to a greater emphasis on credit & debit cards and less emphasis on cash and coin.

From our company's point of view, it was very clear that greater attention should be paid to this new industry of electronic payments and credit card processing. With electronic draft capture (EDC) in its infancy, Select Banking Systems set out to capture a share of the Texas merchant bankcard market by acquiring local and regional merchant accounts. Unlike most competitors, SBS came from a true equipment service background and immediately thrived in a service starved marketplace. Select Banking Systems began their merchant account acquisitions as a SUB-ISO for various financial institutions with a strict attention to servicing the customer at the merchants site or place of business unlike many competitors who rarely performed on-site service of hardware or software.

In 1999, Select Banking Systems became a registered Visa®/MasterCard® ISO/member service provider directly representing AMTRADE International Merchant Services of Grand Rapids, Michigan. In 2001, Select Banking Systems improved their pricing and processing relationship with a unique relationship directly with FIRST DATA MERCHANT SERVICES. SBS was one of the very first bankcard sales organizations to sign with a major processor. FIRST DATA was the largest worldwide handler of bankcard transactions and now had their own full acquiring and clearing services division. First Data Merchant Services/BancorpSouth Bank, Tupelo, MS is the current underwriting and processor alliance serving the front and back end of Select Banking Systems processing team.

In 2005, Select Banking Systems became an Authorized dealer for MAITRE'D restaurant management software. MAITRE'D is a very sought after software offering credit card processing and many other modules and interfaces to the hospitality/restaurant industry.

In 2006, Select Banking Systems entered the ATM business and became an authorized platinum dealer for CARDTRONICS. CARDTRONICS, also a Houston, Texas based corporation is the largest independently owned distributor and processor of ATM machines. SBS focuses on new ATM technologies such as wireless ATM machines for temporary and seasonal events as well as more traditional and permanent ATM placements.

The parts have come together and SBS has proven to be a leader in the payment processing industry.

The buzzwords "cashless society" are closer to reality than one might imagine. Select Banking Systems is already poised to offer solutions to these payment types and will be there to professionally serve this industry in the future.
